BKS IYENGAR
Mr. Iyengar, one of the foremost yoga masters who lives in Pune, India is renowned for his 70 years of dedicated practice, teaching experience and study of classical yoga. He has written several classic texts on the subject: Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and most recently, Light on Life.
BKS Iyengar was born in Bellur, Karnataka during the influenza epidemic of 1918, which he and his mother narrowly survived. He was the 11th child in a family of 13. He spent must of his childhood bedridden due to malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid and malnutrition. His life took a turn when his elder sister married the renowned yoga teacher, Krishnamacharya.
Mr. Iyengar has now retired from active teaching and his daughter, Geeta Iyengar along with her brother Prashant Iyengar carry on their father’s legacy at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India.![]() |
